Mark Wood may miss the rest of the Test series against West Indies because of an elbow injury.

Wood, an England fast bowler, suffered severe pain in his joint after he bowled half a dozen deliveries at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. He will be evaluated further by the team’s medical staff upon arriving in Barbados later in the day.

The 32-year old managed only 17 runs in Antigua, and it seems unlikely that he will add more over the next fortnight.

Mark Wood may miss the rest of the Test series against West Indies because of an elbow injury.

After bowling in the nets, Wood, a fast bowler from England, experienced acute pain in his joint.

The camp discussed Saturday’s fitness test and the possibility of England’s fastest bowler playing in Wednesday’s second Test at Kensington Oval. A condensed schedule that sees the series end next Thursday in Grenada was also discussed. This is not good news for recovery.

If the England hierarchy feels that reinforcements are necessary, Liam Norwell will be called up. He claimed 49 wickets last year in Warwickshire’s County Championship winning season.

Jimmy Anderson and Stuart Broad were controversially left out as England seeks a second win at the Caribbean in 54-years. They weren’t on the stand-by list and have not had contact since the tour started.

If England needs reinforcements, Liam Norwell can be called up

Joe Root is now out of the running to win an historic victory. Joe Root is without Wood, his prized new-ball partner. Wood, a rare England success story with 17 wickets in four Ashes matches earlier in the Ashes, is the only bowler capable of producing the speed that can upset batters on flat, unnatural pitches such as the one in Antigua.

Jofra and Olly Stone are two other merchants who travel 90 miles per hour. They have been training together with international colleagues over the past weeks, but they both still have a long way to go before reaching their highest level.

England will have to make a gamble on Ollie’s fitness or give a Test debut either to Matt Fisher or Saqib Mahmood, if they want to improve their seam attack.

In Barbados, Saqib Mahmood, a Lancashire fast, could make his Test debut
